Öpik attended the emergency council meeting on the recently leaked working document on education in Llandrindod Wells last Thursday 11th February.
The Council voted to create a specialist board which will draw up a new set of education proposals. This time, Councillors will be directly involved in the process of drawing up the document.
The meeting was a huge step forward, there was a real sense of engagement from Councillors, who do grasp the importance of the decisions they're taking.
Lembit remains keen to ensure that ensure that the will of local people is factored into the decision making process.
He says "It would be detrimental to the cause should the issue become party political."
Lembit has since expressed how glad he is that the schools are setting up their own steering groups, as it will enable them to work in partnership with the Council.
He says "It will be hugely advantageous if any further public meetings are organised by them as it gives those meetings a massive amount of extra legitimacy.
He adds "I'm at the service of these groups, as and when you want me to contribute. But YOU must be in charge - it's the most effective way forward."
