MP for Montgomeryshire Lembit Öpik has sent a letter to prospective buyers for the Shop Direct Call Centre in Newtown. The letter promoting the local business was sent to over 20 companies around Britain.
The letter detailed the reason for closure, explaining that it was nothing to do with recession, but the change in shopping habits towards internet shopping of Shop Direct Customers.
Lembit hopes this letter will drum up interest in the local business and entice prospective buyers. The letter also states that "practical help and assistance" has been offered by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Lembit said "My absolute priority is to do all I can to try and save the 180 jobs under threat, this company is very important to Newtown. I will do all in my power to prevent such a valid establishment from closure."
He adds "I am hopeful that the letter will create interest as it is definitely a business worth saving!"
