SOCIAL HOUSING TO BE SOLD AT LONDON AUCTION

Local Councillors and residents in the Clun area have expressed outrage at the move by the South Shropshire Housing Association (Now part of CONNEXUS) is shortly going to sell 4 homes at Amblecote near Anchor at auction in London to maximise profit on the sale.

Lib Dem Shropshire Councillor for Clun .Nigel Hartin said: "This is truly outrageous. At a time when local families are crying out for affordable homes we have a local housing association, whose remit is to provide affordable homes, selling off perfectly good homes to the highest bidder.

"What is worse is that this is just not an isolated incident with houses similarly being sold in Clun and Lydham with others demolished in Worthen and the land sold to developers.

"Connexus originally did start the process of selling the cottages individually to local families and received offers from two local families who wanted to stay in the parish and who offered, I understand, £100K each for two of the properties. Bettws PC also investigated purchasing the cottages on behalf of the community but got little response from Connexus who say they will respond to the PC's letter in due course (after the sale in London next Tuesday!)"
